Call the Meeting to Order

Kiyota Garcia called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee Committee of Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School of Excellence to order on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at 10:15 AM.

II. Academic Excellence

Academic Data Update

We discussed progress year-to-date based on our Annual Priorities.
 

We celebrated our ACCESS results - 75% met DESE’s proficiency targets! All but two fifth graders exited! All but three fourth graders exited! Our ESL program continues to perform well.

 

We then discussed Summer School Planning

  • Runs from July 7, 2025 - July 25, 2025
  • Hours will be from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
  • Summer Camp session 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm 
  • Instruction will focus on Literacy and Math
  • Small class sizes will allow for frequent differentiation and remediation of academic gaps in a targeted manner
  • We are hosting the Teach For America practicum for the 3rd year
  • This year, all incoming kindergarten students were invited to attend our summer school program

Students were strategically invited in tiers based on priority level. Criteria used:

  • High Priority Group: If a student received “well below grade level” in literacy or Math - they were invited 
  • Middle Priority Group: If the list of high priority students was exhausted in a grade level, students who received “below grade level” were invited
