Call the Meeting to Order

E. Cater called a meeting of the board of directors of Wesley International Academy to order on Wednesday Mar 1, 2023 at 5:36 PM.
E. Cater made a motion to Call meeting to order.
D. Hrabe seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Weighted Lottery Report

A.

Weighted Lottery Report and Approval

  • School reached 63% FRL in 10/22 Goal was 65%.
  • Enrolllment was short this year,  752 compared to 810 in the past.

Data:

  • 634 applicants up from 592 last year.
  • 28% increase for kindergarten .

 

2 strategies:

  •   Offering all grades on lottery day .
  •  Making more offers than seats available to account for yield.

 

Recommend a weighted lottery 5%:

  • All Kindergarten should get an offer reducing the weight from 20%  to 5% .
  • Gayle Burnett suggest a plan in place if more students accept offer and not enough space.
  • ED confirms 3 or 4 classrooms can be  converted to homerooms.
  • Driving force is to keep classroom numbers down.
  • Anticipating 40% of offers  will accept.

Wait list :

  • 2 weeks to accept offer.
  • 2 weeks to get paper work in.

ED Comments:

Much easier to have kids start on time  than to come in after the semester starts.

Seneca Williams suggest  to have an Enrollment Day to help families get paper work in.

 

 

E. Cater made a motion to approve Lottery recommendation by Dr Apperson.
K. Jones seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

III. Vote on New Contract for 2023-2924

A.

Vote on new contract there were no change

E. Cater made a motion to Approve 2023-2024 Contract.
O. Okwara seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

IV. Closing Items

The board VOTED to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM.
