Call the Meeting to Order
T. Tidwell called a meeting of the Governance Committee of Wesley International Academy to order on Monday Oct 21, 2019 at 4:36 PM.

Motion to approve Agenda
T. Ryan-Lawrence made a motion to approve agenda.
J. Hansen seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Approve Minutes from September 2019
D. Hrabe made a motion to approve minutes from the Governance Committee Meeting on 09-16-19 Governance Committee Meeting on 09-16-19.
T. Ryan-Lawrence seconded the motion.

II. Other Business
A.
Succession plan for Wesley Leadership
Discussion about different scenarios for leadership succession under planned succession and emergency succession. Discussion over whether we should have a designated successor, at least for short term, in case of emergency. A difference of opinion developed between having a single designated person and a a group of potential designees.

Gender Inclusion Conversation
School counselor Maegan was present.
Melanie Valez, a Wesley parent, was present and joined in the discussion about gender issues. Every student under Title 9 has right to be protected from harassment. Teachers and counselors should be well prepared to respond to issues of harassment.
Important to have a strong non-discrimination policy with defined procedure for filing complaint. There are equity assistance centers that can provide help in performing climate surveys to see what students think, maybe divide by lower elementary school; upper elementary school and middle school.
Discussion about more training for parents and the community over the definition of bullying.
