Call the Meeting to Order

A. Hunter called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Wesley International Academy to order on Tuesday Mar 17, 2026 at 8:30 AM.

Approve Minutes

J. Marshall made a motion to Approve January Minutes.
K. Boyer seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

J. Marshall made a motion to Approve Agenda.
R. Goodman seconded the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Updates from AP's

K–2

  • Teachers are preparing students for the next grade level.

3–5

  • The AP was unable to attend the meeting.

 

6–8

  • Multiple incentives are in place to help students prepare for MAP testing.
  • For Pi Day, students who showed improvement in math were able to throw a pie at their math teacher.
  • Weekly quizzes are given every Friday. Classes with the highest scores were placed on a hallway bracket.
  • The winning class received T-shirts and a pizza party.
  • A test prep tailgate is upcoming to motivate students for MAP testing.

Special Education:

 

  • Saturday School has begun for Special Education students.
  • 18 of 51 students are currently attending.
  • Special Education teachers also attended professional development.

 

B.

STEM Updates

 

 

Pavone shared the success of STEM Night, with all grades presenting age-appropriate projects.

  • Robotics Club and Lego Club were launched and included a raffle.
  • Misfit Adventure and Georgia State were in attendance.
  • Parent turnout was lower than last year, possibly due to curiosity about the new Coan building.

C.

PTSA President /Parent Involvement

 

 

PTSA President Tkeyah discussed strategies to increase parent involvement.

  • A texting communication format was suggested, as it allows parents to respond.
  • Wesley is now using Dojo, which sends messages to parents’ phones, though responses are not enabled.
  • The goal is to better bridge communication between the school and families.
  • PTSA is working to raise funds for a charter bus to take families to the Dragon Boat Race at Lake Lanier.
