Call the Meeting to Order

A. Hunter called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Wesley International Academy to order on Tuesday Nov 18, 2025 at 8:30 AM.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Review 2025-2026 Goals

  

 

Discussed and explored ways to incorporate empathy into writing instruction to develop students' critical thinking and social-emotional skills. 

 

The committee reviewed progress on charter agreement goals and planned to review again at the next ACE meeting.

2025 Georgia Milestones Data Presentation

The committee discussed improvements  in math and science scores, attributed to curriculum changes and increased STEM focus, while also addressing challenges in 6th grade performance due to a teacher absence.

GMAS Data Discussion

Dr. Edwards presented performance metrics across ELA, math, science, and social studies,

noting improvements in math and science scores, particularly in higher grades.  The committee discussed contributing factors to these improvements , including the implementation of Eureka Math curriculum and increased focus on STEM activites.  They also acknoledged the positive impact of bringing in expert teachers for STEM subjects.  The conversation ended with a dicussion about challenges in 6th grade performance and potential areas for improvement.

Upcoming Assessments

Committee discussed student performance challenges, particularly in 6th grade due to a math teacher's absence after a car accident.   

 

 Upcoming assessments, including MAP test scheduled for December 8-12.

Closing Remarks

  Adrian Hunter discussed and  ask administrators to explore ways to incorporate empathy into writing instruction to develop students'criltical thinking and social-emotional skills.
