A regular meeting of the KIPP Philadelphia Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee in joint session with regular meetings of the KIPP West Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee, KIPP DuBois Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee, KIPP West Philadelphia Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee, KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee, and KIPP Parkside Charter School Board of Trustees Academics Committee, with Committee Chair Gail Lewis presiding.

J. Cunningham Akoto called a meeting of the School Health Committee of KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools to order on Wednesday Jan 20, 2021 at 4:04 PM.

II. Academics Updates

A.

Updated Reopening Plans

  1. J. Cunningham opened the meeting with a timeline of safety guidelines to reopen schools 
    1. Reopening plans include Kinder-1st grade students starting 3/1

III. Accountability

A.

Keystones, PSSA, and ACE

  1. J. Cunningham continued the meeting speaking on accountability with testing
    1. Keystone testing to happen in February
    2. No information on PSSA/Keystone testing in the spring
  2. J. Cunningham gave an update on the ACE testing model

B.

MAP Testing Plans

  1. J. Cunningham continued the discussion around accountability surrounding MAP testing in the winter as students will test virtually from home
    1. The Academics team will use data to determine original goals

IV. Academic Progress Monitoring

Reading and Math

  1. J. Cunningham gave an update on the progress in reading and math scores based on curriculum assessments
    1. There are a few issues with validity of data increase because of virtual learning during COVID

V. Strat Plan Updates

KPPS 2025 Plan

  1. J. Cunningham gave an update on the Strategic Plan
    1. Year 1 initiatives have been adjusted
    2. Progress to goals of Liberatory Education and Equity Meets Design checkpoint on 1/22
  2. J. Cunningham continued updating the committee on the Equity Meets Design discussion

VI. SY21-22 Enrollment

Update

  1. J. Cunningham gave an update on SY 21-22 Enrollment
    1. 220-300 Kindergarten applications per school
    2. 100+ first grade applications per school

VII. KIPP Family Association

A.

Update

  1. A. Keyes gave an update to the committee about the upcoming KFA Regional meeting
  2. A. Keyes continued the discussion surrounding workshops that have been positively received by families
    1. KFA is brainstorming on non-Zoom related activities to do with families
  3. T. Algarin gave an update about the involvement of KFA with Kindred
