End-of-year test scores 

• Regents examination results. Overall performance showed a mixed picture, with notable strengths in some areas and continued challenges in mathematics.

• Algebra I Regents performance remains an area of concern. The high school Algebra I proficiency rate was reported at 15%. When middle school students taking the exam are included, the overall proficiency rate increases to 27%, indicating that middle school students contributed positively to the combined results. It was noted that the high school Algebra I performance declined compared with the previous year.

• ZM, board member, discussed the current Algebra I curriculum. Dr. Melkonian explained that the course is currently based on a teacher-developed curriculum. A recommendation was made to reevaluate the curriculum and consider adopting Illustrative Mathematics, noting that it has been widely implemented by high schools and is regarded as a strong instructional program for Algebra I. 

• ZM also suggested using New York City Solves. New York City Solves professional development, where teachers receive training on the instructional shifts in mathematics and the implementation of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. While the curriculum is highly structured, it was noted that it also provides flexibility when teachers are supported in adapting lessons to meet student needs.

• Dr. Melkonian continues with science: Science performance is strong in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, but weaker in Earth and Space Science. In the humanities, our students are doing very well in History, English, and Spanish, which is fitting for a language school. 

Summer Boost is doing great at the middle school

• Summer Boost is in full swing with approximately 140 students enrolled.
• Students are participating in academic classes and enrichment trips.

• The remaining board meeting dates were scheduled for the academic year (on the third Monday of each month).

• The Annual Report is due by August 1 (or the next business day if the deadline falls on a weekend).
• Annual Board Financial Disclosure Forms are required as part of the submission.
• Forms will be pre-filled where possible and sent to board members via DocuSign for signature.
• Board members will receive a reminder to complete the forms promptly so the Annual Report can be submitted by the deadline.
