Call the Meeting to Order

S. Retzlaff called a meeting of the Academic Committee of Voices for International Business and Education to order on Tuesday Mar 10, 2020 at 6:04 PM.

Approve February 04, 2020 minutes

G. Lazard made a motion to approve the minutes from VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 02-11-20.
S. Retzlaff seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

S. Retzlaff made a motion to approve the academic goals for the '19-2020 school session.

IV. Academic Programs Report

A.

Academic Programs Reporting

Art: establish a curriculum for Visual Arts 1. Following a process that the WL department has followed.

ELA: preparation for LEAP assessments. Remediation started for all LEAP subjects - Biology, Algebra 1, Geometry, US History, English 1 & 2 - through April 30. 

MA: additional training for teachers with the Agile Minds curriculum. 

SC: working on project-based assignments. Chemistry to include chemical reactions. More emphasis on the local impact of global warming. 

SS: implementation of the PBIS to mitigate student referrals for discipline. Using DBQ to collect data and write about the subject matter. 

ELL: HMH collections being used for ELL students. Administered the state assessment to determine placement in the ELL program. Continue to double math and ELA. 

SpEd: training with the SELF cohort. Drama informed interventions for students. CBI teachers using a specific process to help a student move to greater efficiency. 

IB: preparation for the rising sophomores to pick classes next year. Preparing for the March 15 deadline for TOK extended essay. Oral assessment recordings. 

WL: mirroring the IB assessments including oral assessments. All student completing language 2 will be enrolled in Ab Initio. Combination of some Madarin courses due to enrollment. 

V. School Culture

A.

Cultural Elements of the School

Clubs are happening on Fridays. The Culture team is providing additional support to club members as students wanting different.

The student attended an Orchestral performance at IHSNO. Our students actively engaged and displayed an interest in starting a program at IHSNO.

Athletic:
Track program is running - March 20 - May 9: Track coach is selling the program and getting students interested. The coach is Ms. Recasner. 
Rugby is practicing. They are attending other rugby games to learn more about playing. 

Capturing Kids Hearts: process champion meetings this Friday, March 13. The campus visit is at the end of March 2020. 10-15% are doing well. About 50% are implementing more regularly. 

Cultural Celebrations included:
Black History. The program was great emphasizing voting and the right to vote. Empowering students to exercise their rights, not only in voting in other areas of their lives as well. The students were heavily involved in the process. 
Arabic Fest is April. We will highlight the contributions of Middle Eastern cultures. 

Working on getting parents involved. Survey sent through the PTO. SpEd Council meeting did not have any parents attend. The Parent Social is March 11, at 5:30 pm. Working through Consultancy to start having virtual/zoom meetings to join discussions. Moving the meetings to other areas around the Metro Area.
