Call the Meeting to Order

S. Retzlaff called a meeting of the Academic Committee of Voices for International Business and Education to order on Tuesday Feb 11, 2020 at 6:00 PM.

Approve October 8, 2019 minutes

S. Retzlaff made a motion to approve the minutes from the VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 10-08-19.
G. Lazard seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Approve December 10, 2019 Minutes

S. Retzlaff made a motion to approve the minutes from the VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 12-10-19.
G. Lazard seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic Comittee Goals 2019-2020

A.

Establish Academic Committee Goals for 2019-2020 School Year

Goal 1: Monitor snd Increase the progress of SPS.
Goal 2: Streamline dashboard
Goal 3: Monitor ACT progress

On March 9, SWilson and MRooney will meet with Dept of Ed regarding charter renewal.

Will vote on the goals next month.

Review Academic Dashboard

Defer the academic dashboard to the next meeting. 

IV. Academic Programs Report

A.

Academic Programs Reporting

AB gave an overview of the academic disposition. 
  • Fewer students enrolled in IB. Expectations for more students to earn a 4 or better on their assessments. There are 3 DP viable candidates.
  • SPED numbers are consistent from year to year and month to month.
  • Culture numbers represent infractions and consequences. Overall, a decrease in infractions.
  • ELL numbers remain consistent throughout the year. Of note, is that the number is fairly steady, but it is not indicative of the same student. 
  • Counseling: more applications and acceptances this year compare to previous years. The average number of applications per senior???
  • ACT prep working with students. Will continue monitoring progress.
  • Social Worker: we now have 2 Social workers, 1- through the School Climate Transformation Grant. 
All positions are filled. 

V. School Culture

A.

Cultural Elements of the School

Clubs happen during the school day on Fridays. 
There are academic, science, drama, and other clubs that meet during this time. 
Athletic events happen mostly in the evening. 

 
Capturing Kids' Heart:
  • Focus on indivcidual components each quarter to ensure that all components of the EXCEL model are implemented
  • There was a reset of the process as we porogress through the school year
  • The CKH process is in progress and the coach of CKH recommend parcelling the process to ensure full implementation.

VI. SPS Improvement

A.

Correlation between board approved funds and SPS Score

Correlation of the funds invested impacts the increase in the SPS. 
Will review the number of contact hours of the Instructional Coach with teachers including teacher COMPASS scores. Need a baseline and then subsequent information to determine the correlation of IC time to teacher performance.
