Call the Meeting to Order

S. Thomas called a meeting of the Academic Committee of Voices for International Business and Education to order on Tuesday Dec 10, 2019 at 6:07 PM.

Approve October 8, 2019 minutes

S. Thomas made a motion to approve minutes from the VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 10-08-19 VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 10-08-19.
G. Lazard seconded the motion.
The motion unanimously did not carry.

II. Academic Comittee Goals 2019-2020

Establish Academic Committee Goals for 2019-2020 School Year

III. Academic Dashboard

A.

Review Academic Dashboard

Discussion about questions to be considered for guiding the development of the dashboard:
CULTURE: 
Discipline - Tier 1 (expellable), 2 & 3 (suspendable) infractions
  • the dashboard will remain the same. Only more egregious matters will be presented to the Board. 
  • percentage of infractions that became presented to NOLAPS hearing office
  • total infractions and total major incidences
  • What are the infractions that impact the culture and operation of the school? and disrupts the academic environment of the school?
  • How are there more consequences than incidents?  
 GUIDANCE
What outside academic opportunities are we providing to the students?
Concurrent Enrollment: students enrolled in another high school like environments
  • What are concurrent learning opportunities?
  • How many students are enrolled?
Dual Enrollment 
  • What are the college credit-earning opportunities?
  • How many students are enrolled?

JumpStart - students earning Industry-Based Credentials
  • What are the college credit-earning opportunities?
  • How many students are enrolled?
​​​​​​Remove # of seniors, letters of recommendation, keeping the other information. 

What are the colleges that students are making an application to and what colleges are students getting in to?
How many choices do seniors get annually?
What is the college persistence of students enrolled in college/post-secondary education opportunities?
What is the percentage of students accepted into college? What are the number of students represented by acceptance?
What number of students are entering the military?
What is the number of students taking the ASVAB?
How effective are we at steering towards post-secondary opportunities?

IV. Academic Programs - Reporting from department heads

A.

International Baccalaureate

IB program discussion had. Training is a focus. English Department, IB Coordinator, and several more training in January and February 2020. 
Conversations about IB English for All. 
Postpone IB Careers' Programme to the 2020-2021 scholastic year. IBCP IB English, IB Math, IB ToK, plus career options.  

B.

World Languages

IB testing will be the 1st year of IB language test. The Department teachers are working with students.
 

C.

English

Continuing use of HMH Collections for English. It is better aligned with IB English. 
IB English 1 for Juniors and IB English 2 for Seniors
 

D.

Science

No changes in the curriculum.

E.

Math

Teacher replacement has been difficult. Still seeking to fill the position. 
Faculty in the department are working with the students. 
Teachers are collaborating with other schools using Agile Mind using these opportunities to assess the facilitation of our implementation. 
 

F.

Social Studies

Department working on taking the students to the FBA regarding landmark cases.
Continue working on discussion-based questions to assist in improving arguments and evidence in writing. 

G.

Arts and Athletics

One new Art and PE teachers. They are using their introduction period to learn more about IHSNO. They have received onsite CKH training.
Athletics
There are many wins. The shortcoming is that girls basketball will not perform this year. 
Boys basketball is moving towards participating in organized sports. The students are participating in academic tutoring. 
 

H.

Special Education

SELF program being used by the SpEd team to learn more about social emotional learning. 
Parents have requested students to be re-evaluated that the students receive services to help the students academically and social emotionally.

Overall



Working with BENOLA. the grant provides IHSNO an academic coach. The coach is working with 4 teachers.
