G. Lazard called a meeting of the Academic Committee of Voices for International Business and Education to order on Tuesday Oct 8, 2019 at 6:05 PM.

III. Academic Programs - Reporting from department heads

A.

International Baccalaureate

IB Program – all clear for 5-year renewal
IBO Points to be Addressed - Number of trained teachers, IBO Policy

B.

World Languages

Some IB Language I & II classes combined (and Sciences, Arts, those with fewer than 10 students.) Teachers using extra periods to plan IB curriculum. E.g. IB Arabic I & II combined with differentiated instruction.

Science

Medical doctor came in to help with pig heart dissections in Science.

Math

Lost two math teachers this quarter. One replaced with veteran teacher. Sample lesson by second candidate tomorrow.

Social Studies

Student voter registration, small mock election.

Arts and Athletics

One Visual Arts Teacher departed, and a PE Teacher. Both positions have been filled with new employees starting next week. New Art Teacher has ceramics experience to put grant-funded kiln to work. New Theater teacher has been hired and completed CKH training.
Nurse has resigned also.

Exit interview process in place for departing employees.
ACT Work Keys MOU has been signed and exam will be given to students for the first time this year. Offer from Youth Force NOLA for spring internships. Dual enrollment at SUNO on IHSNO Campus.

FAFSA and Financial Aid education available at College Night, through Counseling Office and in Senior advisory course. LDOE presents for families in September and in the spring.

A.

IB Learner Profiles

Ms. Gomez voted Most Caring Employee for October IB Learner Profile. Two students selected as well.

Intercultural Appreciation

Hispanic Heritage Festival a success. Vivaz Music played live. Lindsay Navarro was guest speaker. Student dance and poetry performance. Face painting, PBIS store, smoothies for sale. Recognition of staff during assembly. Students invited to Cohen College Prep to perform at their Hispanic Heritage Fest. 
Wednesday, December 4th French Festival, VIBE Board Members invited, 12-1:30pm.
Students dressing in Pink 10/31 to raise money for East Jeff Cancer Research. 

Spirit Week for students and staff this week, leading up to Homecoming Dance Saturday. Homecoming Court elections taking place. Court will be presented at Pep Rally Friday.

Parent Engagement

PTO meeting 9/17/2019. Parents in attendance are ready to volunteer. Vote for officer positions will take place at next meeting in October.

College Night: students accepted to colleges on the spot. Eureka College President has proposed to fund IHSNO accepted students with full scholarships. Morehouse acceptances.

Students applying early and to many colleges through Common App.

Coast Guard, Marines, Army recruiting on site. Navy coming soon. Administered ASVAB on site a few weeks ago. IHSNO Alumni coming back to recruit.

Clubs and After School Programs

Students will begin clubs Friday: Gardening, Minecraft, K-Pop. Topics requested by students, Faculty members will chair clubs, all students participating in at least one club.

Band practicing for school events and marching season, 24 members. Potential band director interviewed today, native New Orleanian with decades of experience.

Volleyball team and cross-country in season. Volleyball and basketball in need of indoor practice space.
 
PBIS store open once every few weeks during lunch. Team looking for more opportunities to provide additional incentives.
Process Champions Training for Capturing Kids' Hearts to ensure fidelity of implementation. Focus for next few weeks on engaging students, teachers greeting students at the door.

SPS Update

IHSNO has run internal calculations, and some improvement from last year's score is expected.

Approve 06/13/19 Minutes

S. Thomas made a motion to approve minutes from the VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 06-13-19 VIBE Academic Committee Meeting on 06-13-19.
G. Lazard seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.
LDOE has now recommended waiting until charter renewal process (Fall 2020) to make any changes to VIBE Charter. 

Working with LAPCS to have EnrollNOLA App updated to reflect Type II Charter differences, and make sure students can be removed from roster earlier in summer if they have not registered.

Establish Academic Committee Goals for 2019-2020 School Year

SPS Score increase annually, number of points established at next meeting?

For Board Reporting:
- Total Enrollment by grade and Attendance Numbers
- IBDP number received, each month what is being done towards IBDP achievement rate? How many candidates enrolled in IB Programme?
- College credit earned measures
- Predictive Scoring when available (exams)

For AC Committee Meeting Monthly Dashboard:
- ELL number of students, can be coded as Exempt from LEAP testing for 2 years?
- Nurse, Social Work visits
- IEP/504s

The committee VOTED to approve the motion.
