Call the Meeting to Order
C. Allen called a meeting of the Academic Committee of Voices for International Business and Education to order on Tuesday Apr 12, 2016 at 6:14 PM.
The Academic Committee Meeting for May is rescheduled to Thursday, May 5th, 2016 at 6 pm.

There was not a quorum in March therefore, there are no minutes to approve.
II. Academic
A.
New item
Diploma Program is represented worldwide and recognized by colleges & universities as elite.
Primary and Middle Years Programme prepares students for Diploma Programme. DP classes are offered to students in 11th and 12th grade.
The idea of IB can be introduced by asking the questions Why is this the answer...and not just accepting the answer provided.
Students Assessments:
3. CAS project. There is no numeric grade for CAS.
Theory of Knowledge Examples Questions:
On track to meeting the goal of 40% student enrollment in Diploma Programme.
Student in IB program takes at least 1 IB class. Students in DP program are enrolled in all IB classes.
The IB program is infused with the teachers, not just the students. Open enrollment allows exposure to students that would not have otherwise selected the school based on the IB Programme.
IB defines content and the processes are defined by the teachers and not prescribed by IB.
All students are scheduled based on what is the best fit for the students including IB classes.

- Students must earn 24/45 points to earn a diploma.
- Grading scale for courses: 1-7
- Grading scale for core requirements: A – E (with “A” being the best and “E” be being the worse)
3. CAS project. There is no numeric grade for CAS.
- Example of a CAS project: Coaching soccer - all the components that come along with coaching soccer. (creating uniforms, coaching, scheduling)

- The knower's perspective is essential in the pursuit of knowledge? To what extent do you agree.
- Knowledge within a discipline develops according to the principles of natural selection. How useful is this metaphor?

M. Garcia made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
S. Wilson seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 7:12 PM.
