Academica / Colegia

Daniel:
-Platform started in March on how to facilitate online instruction for students beyond the current COV-ID season
-The hybrid model is students going 4 days a week and the 5th day participating in Colegia
-The software picked up being able to service students at a time they wouldn't be able to continue to learn
-The platform focuses of 3 facets, Connecting, Cooperating, Collaborating for students

Hearn:
-How are teachers trained for this?

Daniel:
-Series of videos for training, it is an educational ecosystem so teachers, students, staff, and parents will all be connected and be able to communicate about current events
-Schools tried to continue education beyond walls, but they encountered Zoom Bombing where random people can join the virtual instruction and disrupt the chat
-Colegia provides a safe and private environment that no one else would be able to join unless they have a Colegia username
-Digital Educational Operating component is how the ecosystem is created
-Students can log into Colegia and have all the resources they need, assignments, tests, quizzes, and direct access to the teacher to discuss any questions which eliminates the need to go through other means to reach the teacher
-The resources are customized to each school and the school will be able to work with us to create the most efficient platform
-There is also a messenger platform like FB Messenger or WhatsApp and the teachers will be able to handle conversations with their students

Hearn:
-Will the students be able to complete their tests online, how does that work?
-How are parents trained to use this platform?

Daniel:
-Testing can be created in the platform but it is under development and will be completed in September
-Parents will have access to a robust series of videos and have a help desk available to everyone to resolve troubleshooting and access the platform

Joe:
-Is this proposed as a learning management system, or a content for classroom courseware?

Daniel:
-Colegia encompasses all of this, so it elliminates the need to have multiple sources for communication and resources
-The purpose of this meeting was to introduce this platform and if GOCA accepts then we will discuss the platforms that we have to offer which is over 80
-We want to ensure safety for students online over virtual instruction

Hearn:
-Does this entail enough web spacing for all of our students? Or is there limited access

Daniel:
-It is a k-12 solution, we even have pre-k involved

Victoria:
-What is the price point? Have we looked at other companies?

Anna:
-The cost of technology components will be $43,700 for 11 classrooms and Daniel please talk about the classroom set up

Daniel:
-The idea that Colegia can be used whether or not there is a physical setting we have set up a system where children can be online virtually in the classroom while their other classmates are physically present
-Presented a video on the program
-A better dynamic learning experience through technology with the right boards, cameras, microphones, and set up

Hearn:
-What about connectivity? What will be required from the students, a computer, band width?

Daniel:
-Only thing needed is access to a mobile device or laptop/desktop to access Colegia but also home internet or data through their cellular plan

Anna:
-How long has Academica been using Colegia?

Daniel:
-From March to May we had over 80,000 students testing out this software and the number continues to grow
-The peak was the beginning of COV-ID
*Daniel disconnected*

Anna:
-I want to discuss why we didn't go with other options we looked into when deciding on Academia, we chose them because this is a strategic step for schools and would like to go with them to establish a relationship with them after looking into the components they have to offer

Hearn:
-The technology they have to offer is great.

Anna:
-They are very competitive and we will not be losing money going with them, we will be getting a great deal

Victoria:
-What did you guys use last year?

Anna:
-We used Google Classroom for K-8 and Zoom for meetings, students logged into Zoom separately from logging into Google Classroom

Soroka:
-We want to expand, by creating a relationship with Academia that will benefit us in the future, so we can go with the Google Classroom but that will not help us grow and advance

Victoria:
-Is there a membership fee?

Anna:
-There is a $45 per student fee.

Whittingham:
-This will be a very easy way to the students not to have to worry about how to get to each textbook, each class, receive their instruction, and will be a very easy transition from one class to another even if the students are not physically present
-They will have access to all the materials they will need available right away

Joe:
-Academica has worked with A and B schools which will benefit GOCA in the future
