Brad Wright Board Chair Board Chair/Community Representative b.wright@ecrchs.net Mr. Wright grew up in the Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Daniel Murphy High School. In 1981, he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. While at UCLA, he took initiative to address a series of assaults on women by founding the campus safety group, Security Alliance for Everyone (S.A.F.E.). In his senior year, he also volunteered as the Ambassador to the youth of LAUSD, working under then-Mayor Tom Bradley to support youth education. After entering the 1985 NBA Draft, Mr. Wright was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 49th pick. His 15-year professional career in the NBA included stints with the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets, followed by a decade of play in France, Italy, and Spain. Upon retiring from playing, he briefly served as an assistant coach at Orange Coast College before being recommended by Coach John Wooden (UCLA) to revive the L.A. Pierce College basketball program, which had been dormant for 15 years. As head coach, Mr. Wright’s leadership helped 85% of his student-athletes graduate, thanks to his strict academic standards. Next, Mr. Wright returned to the Golden State Warriors’ American Basketball Association (ABA) affiliate, the Ontario Warriors, as Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations. There, he oversaw the team’s business operations, including budgeting and community relations. Afterward, he accepted a role as Vice President of the Anaheim Arsenal, the Los Angeles Clippers' minor league affiliate, where he focused on community relations and fundraising. Mr. Wright later became the Commissioner of the Venice Basketball League at Venice Beach, where he worked with deputy commissioners to ensure the sports area was welcoming and safe. Throughout his career, Mr. Wright has been deeply committed to serving his community. He spent 12 years on the advisory board of "The Devil Pups," a U.S. Marine Corps program for adolescents, contributing both as a former participant in 1976 and later as a volunteer at summer boot camps at Camp Pendleton. In 2003, Los Angeles Police Chief Bill Bratton invited Mr. Wright to join the LAPD’s Jeopardy Program, where he worked as a civilian special reserve to help at-risk youth. Mr. Wright’s passion for community service also led to a partnership as a minority owner of a traveling circus, where he incorporated fundraising for foster children across Southern California. In 2013, he collaborated with El Camino Real Charter High School to raise money and organize a toy drive for children in need. This partnership grew into a lasting relationship, where Mr. Wright and his wife sponsored over 10 exchange students in their home. Now, with over 35 years of experience in his local community, Mr. Wright continues to serve as a Board Member at El Camino Real Charter High School, where he represents the community with an open-door policy.
